Has anyone been over on the 3700 block of Franklin lately? I posted a couple weeks ago how the cool old building on the NE corner of 37th and Franklin was being fixed up. Also, a duplex on the block just got a very tasteful flip. Now the awesome old "Railroad Overall Laundry" building is being renovated. No idea what the story is, but guessing it will be a residence like the similar building a few doors north. Looks like it's already on someone's radar, too. Boy, that block is changing fast! Actually, I think it's more like 2 recently flipped duplexes, and at least 2 recently flipped houses. That block used to be really rough, but now it's turning over really quickly.
My old block! It's been turning for more than seven years now. I never thought it was "rough"--it was a wonderful place to start experience in Cole. I wanted to buy that laundry building soooo bad--wish I'd known it was for sale. One of the BEST blocks in Cole! (I miss Henry.)
Thanks for reading. I actually lived in the left unit of the Coffee Shop building (3704 Franklin) for 7 months in 2001. At that time there were about 15 immigrants living above us who would get filthy drunk and then drop beer cans into our back yard. My car got hit twice parked on the street, and we had homeless people passing out on the bench that was in front of our house every night. Not to mention the gang violence and graffiti from the Golden Gate Market. Sounds like we left just before it started getting better...
We've lived on the block for about a month+ and love the area. Coming from Congress Park you can't beat the culture. We look forward to Paul's coffee shop when it opens on the corner of 37 and Franklin!
Um, people, the whole neighborhood is rough. It's getting better, but that's a fact.

I just left this comment below, but fwiw, the guys working on the coffee shop remodel said it would be open on January 1st and would include a yoga studio.
